Cybersafety at Westbrook - Creating Safe and Knowledgeable CybercitizensVideo
(Onion Skin)But first.....(sharing time) How have you changed the use of your classroom computers since our last meeting? What worked? What needed fine tuning? Share some tips and hints about things that worked well.Lino it This is what we came up withLinoit Cybersafety
The time that our students spend on the internet is increasing every year – either at school in an educational environment, or at home with gaming and social networking. We need to ensure that we are teaching Westbrook students to: · be aware of how to successfully interact with the internet. · be aware of what is acceptable ICT etiquette (Netiquette). · be aware of what can go wrong, and how to deal with it. · be aware who they can safely approach for assistance if needed. A number of our parents do take time to explain the pitfalls, but a greater number do not. The children missing out on the information are the ones most vulnerable. If their parents can't or won't do the job, then we have to. Then at least we can say that we've done the best that we can to ensure our children are cybersafe. Although we often struggle to find enough time in our teaching day already, this is a growing need that will only get more urgent. If we can start to instil this knowledge with the 5yr olds now, then by the time they get to Yr 6 they will be strong, confident, knowledgeable cybercitizens. That has to be our aim. There are many resources readily available on the topic of cybersafety, for all ages. Many of these sites also have parent information. Cyber Smart
